If the things that it is never easy, and it's always a bit harder for those left behind. That to me was clear again, as I Laurie Isola, California native like me, the founder of the Berlin Tacos: Mexican Kitchen Mobile, last week wrote an email. And a half years, she and her husband supplies the city with delicious Mexican-Californian food, at their mobile truck stall and as a caterer. Now they had decided to pack her things. What had gone wrong? Too little sun? Berlin was no longer cool? No, wrote back to Isola. Berlin is wonderful. But they want to travel now.
That gave me no response. Tacos at Berlin, I had felt understood. . For example, as Isola and her husband recently in the HBC cooked in the middle: the chili sauce with chocolate, the braised pork to the salad with lemon dressing - everything tasted great. And so Californian! We really had a connection. "My husband and I had a dream," explained Laurie Isola. A few years ago she met while hiking in the Jordanian desert, a German couple who showed them later in Berlin. The couple from Los Angeles was thrilled. As one of the Germans had eaten a delicious-looking burrito gushed that Ozzy Osbourne in his reality show, the dream was born. The writer Isola and her husband, a web developer, decided to bring burritos, tacos and homemade salsa to Berlin, where these things, at least from the perspective of California, lacked sensitivity. They bought a truck with retail space, got the permits, coped with avocado supply problems and the taco truck parked at different locations between Prenzlauer Berg and Neukölln. It went well. The dream was fulfilled, they needed a new one. In a few weeks, the taco truck in Barcelona will open again.
Tortillas of Jesus
After a while I had been sad, I decided to give Berlin's other mobile taco stand a chance. Music producer Billy Davis, a Texan who has Vatos Tacos opened in April, after a visit to his brother. The Berlin was great, but where are the taco trucks? In Texas, it gives everywhere.Davis and some friends pooled money to buy a truck. They were parked outside the club Ritter Butzke in Kreuzberg, the creative house Aqua Carré, where Davis has his studio.

The offer is simple and consists of tacos with meat (€ two, three, five € tacos), quesadillas (cheese tortilla, 2.50 €) and quesadillas with meat (3 €). Everything is crisp, fresh and intense flavor. "I grew up in Texas, where half the time you eat Mexican," says Davis. When he was ten years ago in Berlin that he had not found a single good Mexican restaurant. He asked his Mexican cousins and aunts tips to cook. The recipes he has lifted. The relatives can be proud of: Recently Vatos tacos organized a week long jazz concerts. Billy Davis had no problems booking, musician, even though there was no money - but tacos.
